Student Trainee (Program Analyst)

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Processing all incoming calls to the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) by screening calls and determining to whom the caller should be referred. Providing assistance to analysts or managers in performing analyses and/or evaluation of operating program characteristics of the telephone systems. Obtaining, organizing, filing, scanning, and retrieving reports, correspondence, and numerical data for use in preparing reports, briefings, and presentations. Analyzing workflow to determine potential problem areas. Making recommendations to correct potential problem areas and to improve coordination between the various units and/or offices. Providing assistance to analysts or managers in performing analyses, collecting information, compiling reports, making contact with Veterans and/or evaluation of comments in the VA Signal Helping Veterans check in and enter travel pay utilizing the kiosk Performing other duties as assigned Work Schedule:
Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules, but the student's work responsibilities should not interfere with the student's academic schedule. Financial Disclosure Report:

The work requires no special physical demands. It may involve some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items. The work is performed in an office or similar setting requiring normal safety precautions against everyday risks or discomforts. To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled. You may qualify based on education and/or experience as described below:
Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
performing standard clerical assignments and resolving recurring problems, verifying accuracy and completeness of information, processing incoming documents, responding orally to inquiries or requests for information, follows-up on requests or complaints, and inputting data into a computer system. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four full academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's or equivalent degree. One full academic year of undergraduate, graduate, vocational, trades, technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. All education must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (transcripts must be submitted). OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. For example, the position to be filled is a Program Support Assistant (Student Trainee), GS-5, and a candidate possesses 9 months of specialized experience and has completed one academic year of college. The candidate meets 75 percent of the required experience and 25 percent of the required education. He/she meets 100 percent of the requirement for 1 year of specialized experience and is qualified for the position (transcripts must be submitted). Preferred

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
